    What are Renewable Energy Certificates?

Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) are tradable, non-tangible energy certificates that represent proof that 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity was generated from an eligible renewable energy resource or power plant.

Energy represents one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions that is causing climate change. It is critical to decarbonize electric grids across the globe by displacing carbon-polluting resources with carbon-free resources to reduce emissions and create clean energy access for all.

    Impact Story

How this Renewable Project impacts the planet?
The 300 MW, Milligan 1 Wind Project located in Nebraska became operational in 2021. EDF Renewables handled the development of this project. The Project is located in Saline County, NE. EDF Renewables invested more than $350 million into rural Nebraska. The Project includes more than 150 area landowners. The Project will created approximately 200 jobs throughout the construction period, which resulted in millions of dollars in local spending at hardware stores, hotels, restaurants, and similar businesses. The project will generate and support full-time, high-paying operations and maintenance jobs. An estimated $100 million in property tax revenue over the life of the project, and participating landowner lease payments will inject additional income into the community that will provide financial support to reinvest into schools, infrastructure and other important community needs. The Project achieved commercial operation in May 2021.
